How many sessions will I need?
It really depends on the difficulties you have and what you are looking to achieve. If you just wanted a thorough assessment, an outline of what is maintaining your problem (formulation) and some self-help guidance, it could be as little as four sessions. But it could be as many as 20 sessions or so, if that was what was required.
When we start work together we will find out what you want to achieve from your therapy and help you set realistic goals for our sessions. This helps us benchmark our progress and help us make decisions about when to end therapy.
By way of explanation none of the therapies we offer are ‘open ended’, so you wouldn’t expect to be seeing a therapist for months and months on end. We work to NICE Guidelines (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) which set out what treatment is effective for specific diagnoses. These guidelines are based upon research and evidence.
